LinkedIn To Update Homepage Over Coming Weeks

|

Over the next few weeks LinkedIn users will see a new homepage design rolling out that the professional social networking site calls ‘simpler and more modern’ in a blog post.

Using the words ‘more modern’ implies that the old design was a bit antiquated. Let’s face it, it was. I appreciate a company that doesn’t pull and punches and simply tells it like it is.

So what else gets attention in this makeover?

More relevant updates up top

Now you can see the most important network updates and articles at the top of the feed. This makes it quick and easy to stay on top of what matters most, such as trending topics, news, and professional updates based on what your connections and industry are reading, sharing, and discussing.

A richer, cleaner update stream

We’ve completely refreshed the way updates look and feel in the stream with richer visuals for easier scanning and viewing. You can also see a continuous stream of updates without clicking “see more” to access all the latest updates from your network

I suspect that many folks reacted like I did which was to say “Oh, I guess it did look a little dated but I never really noticed because it’s LinkedIn.” While it seems like that reaction is a bit laid back and implies it doesn’t really matter I think otherwise. I have always been an under-utilizer of LinkedIn and part of the reason could be that it simply seemed almost the same looking forever thus making it almost too familiar. As a result, it simply blended in to the social media fabric a bit too much.

Now see the new design I am thinking that I need to give LinkedIn its due.

Are you looking forward to these changes from LinkedIn? Does how a site that is more based on being functional rather than entertaining look, impact how much you use it?

Please check in with your comments on the relatively slow Monday.
